Medvedev warned of possible “accidents” at nuclear power plants in Europe

Dmitry Medvedev, deputy head of the Russian Security Council, said EU countries should be prepared for “accidents” at local nuclear power plants. The statement came amid Russia’s and Ukraine's mutual accusations of shelling of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

“Kyiv scumbags and their Western patrons seem ready to bring about a new Chernobyl. Rockets and shells are getting closer and closer to the reactor of the Zaporizhzhia NPP and to the radioactive isotope storage facilities. <…> What can you say? We must not forget there are also nuclear power plants in the European Union. Accidents are also possible there,” Medvedev wrote.

On August 11, Ukraine's Energoatom accused Russia of shelling the Zaporizhzhia NPP, and Vladimir Rogov, a member of the pro-Russian “administration” of the Zaporizhzhia region, in turn claimed it was Ukraine that had shelled the plant.

On August 5, Russia shelled the Zaporizhzhia NPP several times using multiple rocket launchers. At the same time, the pro-Russian “authorities” of Energodar also blamed Ukraine for the shelling. Ukraine's Energoatom said that emergency safety systems were triggered after the strikes and called what was happening “nuclear terrorism on the part of Russia.”

The Insider's sources at ZNPP previously reported suspicious activity of Russian soldiers at the plant's territory. The news portal has video of Russian military trucks entering the plant and unloading cargoes.
