Three killed, 35 injured in Ukrainian drone strike on Izhevsk, marking deadliest attack inside Russia since August 2024

A drone strike on the city of Izhevsk in Russia’s Udmurt Republic on Thursday morning killed three people and injured at least 35 others, according to a report by regional governor Alexander Brechalov. Ten of the wounded are reported to be in critical condition.

Based on official casualty records, the strike marks the deadliest drone attack on civilians within internationally recognized Russian territory since late August 2024.

The drones reportedly targeted a defense facility in the city. According to a report by the independent Russian outlet Astra, the strike hit the Kupol Electromechanical Plant, which manufactures short-range air defense systems. This is believed to be the second such attack on the facility since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

According to The Insider’s analysis, this is the deadliest drone strike since the beginning of 2025. On March 11, a mass drone attack on Moscow and surrounding towns killed three people and injured 17. Another strike on Tatarstan on June 15 left 13 wounded and one dead.

The last attack with comparable civilian casualties occurred on Aug. 31, 2024, when a Vampire multiple-launch rocket system struck Belgorod. Regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported five civilians killed and 46 injured.
